International Yoga Day: Do More Yoga. Own Your Yoga.

Updated: Jun 21

On June 21, people all over the world pause for a breath and to become present in the moment. Some do yoga in a park or studio, others sit quietly in their home and meditate. Together, we're all participating in International Yoga Day, a celebration of an ancient tradition that continues to transform modern lives.

Its a Global Celebration of Inner Peace

International Yoga Day was officially declared by the United Nations in 2014, after being proposed by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who said:

“Yoga is an invaluable gift of India’s ancient tradition. It embodies unity of mind and body, thought and action... harmony between man and nature.”

The chosen date—June 21—is the summer solstice, the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. Across many cultures, this day symbolizes light, awakening, and new beginnings—beautifully aligned with the heart of yoga itself.

Each year since its declaration, millions of people in over 180 countries participate in global yoga events, mass meditations, and local community classes. It’s a reminder that yoga isn’t just a personal practice—it’s a shared language of healing.

Do More Yoga. Own Your Yoga.

At The Nest Collaborative, we carry a deep love for yoga’s roots—but also for its evolution. That’s why two of our guiding phrases are:

Do More Yoga. Own Your Yoga.

These phrases are about presence and possibility, rather than perfection or performance.

🌀 Do More Yoga means making space for what nourishes you—whether that’s a full class, a five-minute breath break, or a slow, mindful walk. The more often you meet yourself in your practice, the more yoga gives back.

🌿 Own Your Yoga means claiming your practice: your pace, your rhythm, your body. It’s about letting yoga nourish you. Some days that means strong movement, other days gentle stillness. Both are sacred. Both are yoga.

What the Science Says

Modern research confirms what yogis knew for centuries:

  • Yoga activates the parasympathetic nervous system, helping to calm anxiety and improve sleep.

  • It reduces cortisol levels (the stress hormone), enhances focus and memory, and even boosts the immune system.

  • It increases balance, strength, and flexibility while simultaneously supporting mental clarity and emotional resilience.

  • And most importantly— yoga practice deepens inner awareness in a world that constantly pulls us outward.

This International Yoga Day...

Pause. Breathe. Open. Listen.

Whether you’re stepping into your very first class or returning after a long break, know this:

The best yoga is the one you’ll do. And when you make it your own, it becomes a source of strength within you.

So on this global day of unity, light, and stillness—do more yoga and own your yoga. You are already enough. And you already belong.
