Vinyasa✨

In modern yoga classes, you’ll often hear cues like “take a vinyasa” or “flow through your vinyasa.” Typically, this means moving through Chaturanga, Upward-Facing Dog, and Downward-Facing Dog. You might repeat this sequence many times in a practice, sometimes even struggling to keep up.


There’s nothing inherently wrong with this approach—it just isn’t always realistic for every body. The pace can be too fast, modifications aren’t always offered, and teachers may assume everyone already knows what “vinyasa” means. As a result, some students end up thinking that all Vinyasa yoga is just a fast-paced power flow, which can feel intimidating or discouraging.


But do you know the literal meaning of the word Vinyasa?


Vinyasa translates to “to place in a special way.” At its heart, it’s about placing your attention with intention.


Yes, Vinyasa involves linking breath with movement, and yes, it can feel like flowing. But more deeply, it’s an invitation to direct your awareness inward, to move mindfully, and to practice with presence.


As you step onto your mat, remember: the goal isn’t speed or repetition, but cultivating a strong foundation and a steady breathing practice. That’s the essence of traditional Vinyasa.


So the real question is: can you place your attention in a meaningful and intentional way? ✨
